Art cannot be eaten or drunk. It cannot be carried or lived in. It provides neither shelter nor warmth, even though it sometimes feels that way. Yet we have a fierce appetite for art, I look at it with ravenous eyes.

In this reading group we will take large chunks of small texts about art. Four meetings, four texts. One at a time. You can come to one meeting or you can come to all of them, it's up to you. The idea is that we will read and talk together. We have chosen new and old classics. Among others, Susan Sontag, Ursula K. Le Guin, Hélène Cixous and Claire Bishop.

We start on January 7th with Susan Sontag's 1964 banger Against Interpretation which ends with the delicious sentence "In place of hermeneutics we need an erotics of art." A New Year's resolution to make art sexy again.
