Re:Work

Shared by Blenda Groth Albrektsson and Sofie Hviid Vinter

Every week, Haukeland hospital discards over one hundred kilograms of textiles because they have been worn out or damaged. Many work clothes are thrown away because of stains, caused by leaking pens placed in the chest pocket. These discarded garments are the materials for the course. With their particular history and function, you will experiment with ways of altering them - from fitting single human bodies - to changing architectural space.

The process of handling, cutting, sewing, glueing and changing the garments will happen in parallel to discussions about labour, workwear and what it means to have a uniform. You will work towards creating shapes and interventions that change how exhibition space is moved through and used.

The course sharers are Blenda Groth Albrektsson, who already has a history with these materials, having discovered their potential earlier this year, and artist Sofie Hviid Vinter, who will bring her practice and skills that relate closely to workwear and its culture.

Blenda Groth Albrektsson is currently pursuing a master's degree at Bergen School of Architecture. With a background in the arts and museum education, she focuses on material reuse and uses handicrafts to promote creativity. As an essential part of a group project last semester, she explored creative sustainable design practices, transforming and reusing materials.

Based in Bergen, Sofie Hviid Vinther examines work culture and the importance of work for the individual. What position work has in our everyday life, as well as the impact on our physical and mental health. What weight a job title can carry and how it changes depending on the environment. Her works have been exhibited in galleries including Galleri Christinegården in Bergen, SOFT Galleri in Oslo, Studio 17 in Stavanger and K.U.K. in Trondheim.
