This month, we get bold, chaotic, and darkly funny — with revenge, sisterhood, and a splash of crime.
May’s Book Pick: The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff
Genre: Satirical Fiction / Crime Comedy
From: India → U.S.
About the book:
What happens when a woman in rural India is (falsely) believed to have killed her abusive husband — and other women want her help to do the same? This fast-paced, razor-sharp novel follows Geeta as she gets drawn into a spiraling web of secrets, alliances, and feminist fury.
It’s outrageous, hilarious, and sometimes deeply moving.
Why we chose it:
After a few heavy reads, we wanted something irreverent and wildly entertaining — while still meaningful. The Bandit Queens explores serious issues like domestic violence, class, and patriarchy, but through a lens of satire and resistance.
It reminds us that stories of survival can be full of bite, laughter, and women rewriting the rules.
Haven’t read the book? Come anyway!
FMV Book Club is about thoughtful conversations sparked by the book’s themes — not perfection. Whether you’ve read it all, just started, or want to listen and learn, you are warmly welcome. Bring a friend!
This event is free and open to all.
