Lecture and panel discussion: New Architecture Writers
Date: 27.11.2024
Time: 18:30-21:00
Host: The Norwegian Critics’ Association, Bergen Assembly
The Norwegian Critics’ Association invites to a lecture and panel discussion on how architecture and design criticism can be made richer in diversity and more inclusive. The event will take place at Bergen Assembly (Halfdan Kjerulfs Gate 4) on November 27. Door opens at 18:30, lecture from 19:00.
The lecture and panel discussion will be held in English.
----------
Thomas Aquilina with Abiba Coulibaly will present the project of New Architecture Writers as an experiment in radical architectural pedagogy. The presentation will discuss different forms of architectural writing and what it means to write through difference.
New Architecture Writers is a free programme for emerging writers of colour that began in London in 2017. Its mission is to develop the writing skill, editorial connections and critical voice of its members. Its original aim was to diversify dominant narratives. Now in its sixth iteration, it moves beyond representation, using writing to influence the wider culture of architecture.
After the presentation of N.A.W., we will open a discussion with the two visitors from N.A.W., the principal of the Bergen School of Architecture (BAS), Emma Nilsson, and the audience. The evening and discussion will be moderated by Anders Rubing, a member of the working committee in the Art Section of the Critics’ Association, architecture critic, and editor-in-chief of the architecture magazine Nordic Review of Architecture.
The event will be held in English and it will be streamed online via this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdgBjNuDigk
The event is in collaboration with Bergen Assembly, Tekstallianse, and BAF.
With generous support from Fritt Ord and Arts Council Norway.
