Solidarity Postcards for Political Prisoners of Belarus

Join Solibel on the 15th of May at 17:30 at Bergen Assembly to write solidarity letters to Belarusian political prisoners. For many people receiving a letter of support and solidarity can give a little motivation and brighten up their day. Write about your day, do you follow any sports and want to share, describe a funny anecdote etc.

They are ordinary people who showed extraordinary bravery in the name of freedom and democracy, often aware of what kind of persecution they will be subjected to (political repressions have been a part of the regime's grip on power since the late 90's).

Currently, there are over 1379 political prisoners in Belarus (the real number is much higher, there have been over 30,000 arrests since the protests in 2020 and hundreds of thousands of people had to flee the country, the regime is still actively targeting people based-on photos and videos released from the protests).

Bloggers, businessmen, factory workers, artists, presidential campaign members and peaceful protesters are held in prisons only because they were not afraid to exercise their rights - the right to participate in peaceful assemblies, to express their opinion and to be involved in political activities.

Including Ales Bialiatski,(https://prisoners.spring96.org/en/person/ales-bjaljackiy) founder of the Viasna96 organisation, Nobel peace price Laureate, and currently a political prisoner serving 10 year sentence.

Most of these people were targeted by politically motivated criminal prosecution in connection with the events that took place during and after the presidential election of August 2020. And after full-scale russian invasion in Ukraine the regime started persecuting people who actively supported Ukraine or even expressed solidarity in form of social media posts, donations or likes.
