In its defense policy, Norway is increasingly linked to the US, which includes 12 US bases on Norwegian soil. Does this ensure our security?
Glenn Diesen is a professor of political science/sociology at the University of Southeast Norway. His main focus is Russia and Eurasian integration. Most of his education and research has been linked to foreign universities. He is the editor of the journal "Russian in Global Affairs".
About the lecture:
There is little doubt that the USA's hegemonic position in a unipolar world is coming to an end. There are many indications that this superpower will become more aggressive and engage more militarily to maintain its position. This is particularly noticeable in our neighboring regions in connection with the Ukraine conflict, where the US has used Ukraine to weaken Russia.
It is in light of this development that we now end up with 12 US bases on Norwegian soil. These will be subject to American sovereignty, as if they were American territory. This is a clear break with what has been Norway's rock-solid base policy since we became NATO members. In addition, the defense budget will almost double with the purchase of American weapons, which will mean a huge gift package to the American military-industrial complex.

The meeting is free of charge and refreshments will be available for purchase at the bar.
Glenn Diesen:
Diesen has published several books that have received very good reviews around the world in academia and elsewhere. This applies not least to his latest book: "The Ukraine War & the Eurasian World Order".
While Diesen is a recognized researcher in the international arena, who also participates in TV debates all over the world, he is a voice that is unwanted in the Norwegian mainstream media. The reason for this seems to be that he brings in the geopolitical or historical context behind the war in Ukraine and that he takes it for granted that it is important to understand Russia's motives and analysis. This is undesirable in Norway because it breaks with the simple black and white story our rulers clearly want us all to have. It says quite a lot that NRK in June 2022 apologized for letting Diesen appear on Helgemorgen.
